Switching from MJ Platform to DubLedger

MJ Platform (MJ Freeway) has been in the industry since the beginning. We built DubLedger to solve the problems that legacy platforms still carry.

MJ Platform is one of the oldest cannabis POS systems. They have deep industry experience and broad feature coverage. But their architecture shows its age, and operators frequently cite reliability issues, slow sync times, and outdated interfaces. If you are looking for a modern alternative, here is how we compare.

Why operators switch from MJ Platform

Modern architecture

DubLedger is built on event-sourced architecture with real-time sync. No batch processing delays. No data reconciliation issues across registers.

Reliability on busy days

Inventory syncs instantly across every register. Two budtenders cannot sell the same last eighth. The system stays fast under peak load.

Interface your staff will actually use

Tablet-first design built in 2026. Minimal training required. Your budtenders will be faster on day one.

Direct founder support

No escalation chains. No outsourced support. Mike and Sam are on Slack with every beta operator.

How they compare

An honest breakdown. MJ Platform has real strengths. So do we.

What to validate before leaving MJ Platform

Inventory and package balance

Export the active package list, product catalog, on-hand quantity, cost, and location assignment from MJ Platform. Compare that export with a physical count and the state traceability system before migration begins. Resolve negative quantities, duplicate products, and inactive packages first. A clean opening balance is more important than moving every historical field into the new system.

Customer and transaction history

Decide which customer fields have a legitimate operating purpose and can be moved under your privacy policy. Preserve transaction history, refunds, discounts, loyalty adjustments, and tax details in a read-only archive even when the new point of sale does not need every legacy field. Managers should be able to answer an auditor without reopening the old production account.

Hardware and register workflow

List every register, receipt printer, cash drawer, barcode scanner, label printer, tablet, and network dependency. Test a full sale, return, split payment, discount, patient transaction, and end-of-day close on each register configuration. Run the test with the employees who will use the system; a technically successful integration can still fail if the checkout sequence creates avoidable work.

Cutover and rollback evidence

Set a final transaction time, name the person responsible for each reconciliation, and record the expected balances before cutover. During parallel operation, compare sales totals, tax, payments, discounts, and inventory movement between systems. Define the exact condition that triggers a rollback and keep the old platform read-only until the first complete reporting cycle has been reconciled.

Switching questions

How long does it take to switch from MJ Platform to DubLedger?

Most dispensaries complete the full migration in 24-48 hours. We handle data export, compliance rule mapping, METRC validation, and staff training. Complex multi-location setups may take 3-5 days.

Will I lose any data switching from MJ Platform?

No. We migrate your full inventory, customer database, and transaction history. Data integrity is verified before and after migration.

Can I run both systems in parallel during the switch?

Yes. We recommend parallel running for 24-48 hours where both systems are active. This ensures a smooth cutover with a rollback path if needed.

Ready to explore switching?

Talk directly with the founders. We will assess your current setup and walk you through the migration path.
